Introduction

The enduring challenge of disability inclusion in South Asia persists, with various socio-economic and cultural factors influencing the region's approach to accommodating individuals with disabilities. Despite strides in awareness and policy development, significant disparities remain, hindering full integration and participation. This paper seeks to explore South Asia's stance on disability inclusion, offering insights into its perspectives, priorities, and potential pathways for progress.

The paper aims to delve into South Asia's multifaceted perspective on disability inclusion, encompassing diverse dimensions such as societal attitudes, legal frameworks, cultural norms, and other relevant considerations. Additionally, it will examine ongoing efforts and forthcoming policy implementations aimed at enhancing disability inclusion in the region.

Key Themes for Exploration

Policy Frameworks: Evaluation of existing policy frameworks and legislative measures related to disability inclusion across South Asian countries, identifying strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement.

Social Attitudes and Cultural Dynamics: Analysis of societal attitudes towards disability, examining cultural perceptions, stigma, and barriers to inclusion, as well as initiatives aimed at promoting social acceptance and inclusivity.

Access to Services and Opportunities: Assessment of access to essential services, education, employment, healthcare, and other opportunities for individuals with disabilities, highlighting disparities and initiatives addressing these gaps.

Requirements

  • Applicants should possess relevant work/educational experience of at least 5 years in Disability Studies, Social Work, Public Policy, Development Studies, or related areas.
  • In-depth knowledge of disability inclusion issues in South Asia, including familiarity with regional variations, challenges, and best practices, is essential.
  • Ability to produce high-quality, concise, and error-free written content in English, tailored to both academic and policy audiences.
  • Capacity to communicate research findings effectively to diverse stakeholders, including policymakers, advocacy groups, civil society organizations, and individuals with disabilities.

Prescribed Style

  • The paper should fall within the range of 2500-3000 words, adhering to academic standards by incorporating relevant citations, empirical evidence, and analytical rigour.
  • The author will be provided with a template for the policy paper.
  • In-text citation and Harvard Referencing Style should be followed; footnotes should be used when relevant, avoiding hyperlinks.
  • An honorarium of 950 Euros will be provided for the paper.
